The Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization that has been conducting social work since the early 1950s through about 30 different activities around Gothenburg. Our work is based on a Christian value foundation that cares for humanity. We dream of a city where no one is left behind and where all people can live a dignified life.

We are now looking for you who want to work this summer as a treatment assistant at Ability together with us towards our vision; a dignified life for all!

Ability The residential service is aimed at individuals with co-occurring disorders and complex issues, such as substance abuse, mental health problems, and neuropsychiatric disabilities. Participants often have difficulties establishing their own housing due to the combination of these challenges. The accommodation is a contracted symptom-tolerant service in the category: “enhanced social housing with support,” which means that participants may be under the influence while at the residence.

Read about what it is like to work with us at Work at Ability and about the service itself at The Rescue Mission.

Job Responsibilities In the role of treatment assistant, you are present when everything works but can also be the ultimate security when everything breaks down for participants. You create security when it is difficult and motivate the development of life skills and self-image. The role includes supporting participants in daily structure, meaningful activities, work training, as well as health-promoting activities and leisure. Your duties include some cooking and cleaning. Daily reporting and regular follow-ups of the participant's recovery process, documentation according to Sol, implementation plans, and other goal-oriented work based on the assignment are also included.

Qualifications We are looking for someone who believes in every person's right to a dignified life. You are secure, stable, and never stop believing in the human capacity for change. You are good at accommodating meetings with people in distress and work based on the method of low-affect responses. To thrive in the role, you are a secure and fearless person as threats and violent situations may occur.

We want you to have:

  • Studying social work or have education as a social pedagogue or equivalent as assessed by the employer.

  • Work experience with the target group within social work.

  • A strong interest in the target group.

  • Knowledge of how a person with co-occurring disorders and crises functions.

  • Knowledge of how to work with and meet people with psychiatric (psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) and neuropsychiatric disabilities (ADHD, autism).

  • Read and share the Rescue Mission's value foundation and wish to meet everyone with respect and warmth.

  • Experience in documentation and a good ability to express and formulate yourself in Swedish in speech and writing.

  • Can be around dogs, as dogs may be present at the residence.

It is an advantage if you also have experience of personal recovery from addiction and/or mental health issues and can use that experience as motivation and a tool. We require at least 4 years of recovery and that you actively work on your recovery.

We take great consideration of personal suitability. For us, “meetings at eye level” is an important guideline in both the meeting with the target group and among employees. We are open to all regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ethnicity, disability, or belief. What unites us is the willingness to work based on the organization's direction, values, and identity traits.

The Rescue Mission offers We want our employees to feel good! As an employee with us, you become part of a warm and unpretentious workplace with competent colleagues, where the value foundation permeates both the work environment and the treatment of those we are here for.
